Abattoirs Road, Warnertown

Abattoirs Road is a busy local arterial road providing access to the southern area of Port Pirie from National Highway 1.  A 2.2km section of Abattoirs Road originally had a series of tight curves after a long straight section, and this combined with a narrow seal width resulted in a number of safety deficiencies. This project involved the re-alignment of the 2.2km section of Abattoirs Road adjacent to Warnertown, with the aim of reducing the tight horizontal geometry, increasing the seal width and improving road safety.

This project received an award for Excellence in Road Safety Engineering from the Institution of Public Works Engineering Association (IPWEA SA) 2016.
